Dual Neutron Tool

The Dual Neutron Tool is designed to measure the hydrogen content in surrounding materials, providing valuable insights into subsurface conditions. Below the groundwater level, the tool can be used to determine porosity by measuring the hydrogen content in water-filled rock pores under suitable conditions. This tool utilises a sealed radioactive neutron source to deliver accurate results.

In lined or cased boreholes, the tool provides qualitative data, identifying zones with varying hydrogen content. The neutron log responds not only to ‘free’ water in the formation but also to water chemically bound within clays, enabling detailed analysis of subsurface properties.

  • Porosity Measurement: Accurately determines porosity in water-filled formations.
  • Hydrogen Content Analysis: Responds to both free water and chemically bound water within clays.
  • Lined Borehole Application: Provides qualitative insights into hydrogen content in cased or lined boreholes.
  • Dimensions: 1300mm (length) x 38mm (diameter)
  • Weight: 12kg

  • Logging Speed: 2–5 m/min
  • In lined or cased boreholes, the tool delivers qualitative porosity data for the material behind the linings.

  • Diameter Range: 50–300mm
  • Environment: Fluid-filled boreholes only

The Dual Neutron Tool is a versatile and reliable instrument for hydrogen content and porosity analysis, providing critical data for geological, hydrogeological, and geotechnical investigations. Its ability to deliver accurate results in both open and lined boreholes makes it an essential tool for subsurface analysis.
