Formation Density Tool
Advanced Density Measurement for Subsurface Analysis
The Formation Density Tool is a precision instrument designed to measure the apparent density of formations surrounding a borehole. Equipped with three collimated detectors spaced at varying distances from a gamma radiation source, this tool provides detailed density logs while minimising the effects of borehole diameter variations and fluid type through its side-walled operation.
- Long Spaced Density (LSD): Spaced at 48cm, offering the greatest depth of investigation for comprehensive formation analysis.
- High Resolution Density (HRD): Spaced at 24cm, providing moderate penetration (up to 10cm) for medium-density formations, balancing resolution and depth.
- Bed Resolution Density (BRD): Spaced at 14cm, delivering high resolution but shallow penetration (2–3cm), making it highly responsive to formation changes and borehole variations.
This versatile tool is ideal for detecting subtle density variations in formations and can operate effectively in both fluid-filled and dry boreholes.
